Do you know the Good Kings of Israel?

Sometimes it is far easier for us to focus on those who work against God’s Will than those who work toward God’s purposes. That being said, do you know who the good kings of Israel/Judah were? Could you name them and tell why they were good or what they did in their lives? Many times we focus on the bad things the kings did, or we know more about the wicked kings than the good ones.

We recently finished a study in our home devotionals examining the kings that God described as good. They were not perfect, and made many mistakes, but there are many good and positive lessons for us from their lives. Take the time to learn about these men, and teach the lessons of their lives to your children (both positive and negative). Maybe the greatest lesson of all is that a man can make mistakes and God can still call him “good.” Here’s the list of good kings:

David (1 & 2 Samuel; 1 Chron. 11-22)
Solomon (1 Kings 2-11; 1 Chron. 23-2 Chron. 9)
Asa (2 Chron. 14-16)
Jehoshaphat (2 Chron. 17-20)
Joash (2 Chron. 24)
Amaziah (2 Chron. 25)
Uzziah (2 Chron. 26)
Jotham (2 Chron. 27)
Hezekiah (2 Chron. 29-32)
Josiah (2 Chron. 34-35)

“For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope” – Romans 15:4
